Come with me
This is my largest piece to date and it was completed in January 2021 - it was such a great way to start the New Year!
I love the colour palette, the mix of turquoise contrasting against the neutral tones whilst sitting alongside the hints of muted pink. Layers of diluted inks and glazes were meticulously applied over areas to create the patina of richly aged textiles and linens.
This process fascinated me. I love the texture it created.
There's an abundance of markmaking throughout partly inspired by the expanse of the canvas surface. I was able to reach, stretch and swoop to make the marks, it was a full-bodied experience!
Heavier primal marks to the most delicate pencil lines all have a place here. The loose layering of transparent glazes allow the underpaintings to show through too. A whole surface of intimate details sit gently within a wash of (mostly) desaturated colour blocks.
For that extra pop the pale orange was applied at the end - this felt risky but I knew it needed something and I'm so glad I took the risk!
